This festival is held every May 20-21 in Melbourne at Federation Square to celebrate the birth anniversary of the Buddha. It is great place to experience a little bit of Buddhism in a very western country. It reminds me a little bit of the Buddhist ceremonies you might see in Hong Kong, Japan and throughout the rest of asia. The air is filled with chanting of sutras, the smell of incense and praying to and honouring the Buddha on his birthday. I really try to focus on capturing good images of the Buddhist Nuns. They are so serene, happy, contemplative and focused amongst a throng of people. The multicultural aspect involves and interfaith blessing, flamenco dancers and Chinese dance troupes.
